Treating severe behavioral problems after TBI: Sometimes a brain injury results in severe behavioral problems. At NRI, we offer an effective rehabilitation plan for the individual with behavior problems who requires a locked, secure treatment environment. Through our specialized intensive neurobehavioral program, we are able to:
Left untreated, a behavioral problem can impede a person's ability to make gains in their recovery, and can add stress and complexity to their personal lives. If you or someone you know is struggling with behavioral problems after a brain injury, call us today. We can help! |
For individuals who have a moderate to severe brain injury, the magnitude (degree) of their behavioral difficulties will require treatment is a specialized safe and secure environment where the staff are trained in brain injury rehabilitation and they successfully manage dangerous behaviors. The Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute at Brookhaven Hospital understands brain injury and recognizes that some individuals will need a rehabilitation program which can provide them with a locked and controlled program environment while they re-acquire social behaviors and prepare for the next step. In our program, we offer an opportunity for the individual to make real progress; our hope is that they can return to living in a community-based setting. Our treatment approach focuses on positive behavioral reinforcement in the context of a structured and carefully regulated environment. NRI's behavioral specialization is supported by our physicians and professional rehabilitation staff. Each of our professionals has the unique skills to help resolve severe behavioral problems and to address the medical, neurological, psychiatric and cognitive issues.
Our approach is to avoid crisis through supervision and support offered by our caring staff members. We provide our patients with ongoing community living experiences to "try out" positive behaviors and to use the strategies they have learned in rehabilitation. Our goal is to help each person return to a life with the highest possible level of independence and to a life worth living. -Rolf Gainer, PhD
