Suicide and Traumatic Brain Injury

This week I am presenting on the topic of Suicide and Traumatic Brain Injury at the Silent Wounds of War: Addressing the Needs of Our Returning Vets conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Brain injury and the significant mental health problems (PTSD, suicide, depression and substance abuse) experienced by some veterans are coming to the forefront through news stories, personal accounts and the efforts of individuals and organizations who are trying to make a difference in the lives of our returning soldiers. As I was finalizing the presentation I was asked by the Brain Injury Association of London and Region (Ontario, Canada) to contribute a short article on the same topic to their December edition of The Monarch and to consider an article about the returning Canadian vets in a forthcoming article.

We can’t sweep these problems under the rug. Our energies, resources and skills are required to assist our soldiers as they return home with the long lasting physical and psychological wounds of war.
