Dr. Rolf B. Gainer discussed what family caregivers go through when caring for a loved one with severe brain injury in a recent interview conducted by Dr. Gordon Atherley. Dr. Gordon Atherley founded Family Caregivers Unite!, a social media project in 2010. He uses his live internet talk radio show to connect with caregivers and to provide information and support. His most recent episode features a discussion with our Chief Executive Officer of the Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute at Brookhaven Hospital, Dr. Rolf B. Gainer.
Dr. Gainer explains that there is hope. Positive change can occur for the individual years post-injury. He provides valuable tips for caregivers, and looks to the future suggesting changes to our healthcare system.

Michael Paul Mason is an editor, writer, speaker and journalist based in Tulsa. His works have appeared in several newspapers and magazines including Discover, The New York Times and The Believer. Mason has also appeared as a guest on several national media outlets including the Lehrer Newshour, CBS News and NPR’s Morning Edition. He currently serves as the editor of This Land Press, Oklahoma’s first New Media company, which he founded.
Mason’s book Head Cases: Stories of Brain Injury and Its Aftermath draws from the more than five years that he spent as a Brain Injury Case Manager at Brookhaven Hospital where he spent countless hours helping survivors of traumatic brain injuries and their families. The book explores how survivors of traumatic brain injuries make sense of the world around them.
A recognized expert in his field, Michael Paul Mason has served as a board member of the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists and is a past president of the Brain Injury Association of Oklahoma.
