NeuroNotes welcomes Dan Harren
Dan Harren is joining NeuroNotes as a guest blogger. Dan is the Business Development Manager for Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute of Ontario (NRIO), our sister facility in Toronto. He brings a background in brain injury rehabilitation for individuals with severe brain injuries and a dual diagnosis in hospital, residential and outreach settings through NRIO and other organizations. Dan has worked as a Behavior Therapist, Program Manager and Case Manager, and we look forward to Dan’s blogs continuing to expand the scope of NeuroNotes.
I personally collaborated with Dan on the development of two presentations which we presented at the Ontario Brain Injury Association conference. One presentation, “A Little Bit of Kramer in All of Us: Social Skills Training Using Sitcoms,” was based on creating a social learning curriculum using television sitcoms such as Seinfeld or The Office. The other, “The Double-Whammy: Managing Brain Injury and Severe Mental Illness After Rehabilitation” addressed the complex rehabilitation challenges created by individuals with brain injuries and mental health and/or substance abuse problems. Additionally, Dan has presented at other national and international conferences including the Brain Injury Awareness Day conference in Ottawa in 2011.
