Melissa Felteau Shares Her Journey with NeuroNotes
When you first meet Melissa Felteau you will encounter a ball of positive energy packed into her diminutive frame. She wasn’t exuding positive energy when I first met her and her father at a brain injury conference almost 25 years ago in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. In fact, she was devastated by the aftermath of her injury and was just beginning to find her way back. I followed Melissa’s progress for years through NRIO and at brain injury conferences where I saw her taking on an ever increasing role. In the process of her journey back, Melissa discovered Buddhist meditation and returned to graduate study. Her focus on the application of Mindfulness to brain injury brought her to formalize her work through research and teaching. Today, Melissa Felteau is a leading expert in Mindfulness and Brain Injury, a published author, conference speaker and teacher. In her blog, she talks about her new role as caregiver, the very role her parents held following her brain injury. When I spoke with Melissa recently I asked her if she would contribute that part of her personal story to NeuroNotes. Melissa has contributed to NeuroNotes in the past about her work in Mindfulness.
