New tool helps “Locked-In” condition

A new tool has been added to help clinicians identify individuals who are experiencing consciousness but unable to communicate due to their brain injury. This condition is identified as the “Locked-In Syndrome” and until this development it has been difficult to measure the person’s ability to respond. While family members often could detect response, rehab professionals had little in the way of an objective assessment and evaluation tool.
