NFL’r Dead at 27 from CTE
Tyler Sash, a 27 year old, died in September from an accidental overdose of pain medication. Sash had played for the New York Giants as a Safety. Dr. Ann McKee of the Boston University School of Medicine confirmed that the former NFL player had Stage 2 Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy or CTE which is unusual for a young athlete. Mr. Sash’s degree of CTE was comparable to that of Junior Seau. There are 4 stages identified in the progression of CTE.
With an 11-year history of playing football, Mr. Sash’s death highlights the risks associated with multiple concussive and sub-concussive hits. Mr. Sash was known to be struggling with bouts of confusion, memory loss and temper control problems.
