Athletes and Soldiers: Link to CTE

The consequences of multiple concussions in athletes, such as pro-football and hockey players, has been the subject of research and has been noted to be a factor in death of athletes who show signs of CTE or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. Further study from the Boston center has now linked CTE to veterans who have multiple concussions from blast injuries. The implications from this link are significant with the high number of soldiers who have “mild” TBI and the unknown number of veterans who have not yet been diagnosed with brain injury but are showing the psychological, cognitive and behavioral symptoms associated with TBI.
