Despite all the literature on the topic, brain injury is still largely a mystery to the medical community, That is slowly changing thanks to Scientists like Douglas Smith, head of Pennsylvania’s Center for Brain Injury and Repair.
Smith talked to Philly.com about the current state of brain injury, and while he is optimistic about the future, his statements all highlight the confusing nature of brain injury. They also all showcase the increased recent interest in TBI and concussions. The heightened profile of brain damage is largely thanks to recent findings about professional athletes and a Philadelphia-based lawsuit by professional football players, who believe the NFL did not take proper measures to ensure their safety.
