Prince Harry Becomes Patron To Brain Injury Charity
Prince Harry will be following in his mother’s footsteps this month, as he travels to the city of Nottingham as part of his new role as royal patron of the Headway charity for those affected by brain injury.
Harry will be opening a new headquarters for the charity where he will get to meet and speak with people who struggle with brain injury, as well as joining in on an interactive workshop that simulates living with a brain injury.
He hopes to gain insight into what it is like living with a brain injury, but he is not the first member of the royal family to be a large part of Headway’s public relations. Diana, Princess of Wales held the same position from 1991 through 1996.
Andrew Green MBE, Chair of Headway told the Daily Beast, “We are thrilled and delighted that Prince Harry has agreed to visit us in our new home in Nottingham to learn of the work we do to support people affected by brain injury. Princess Diana’s support of the charity greatly enhanced its profile and we hope Prince Harry’s visit will help us achieve similar results. It will be a momentous day in the history of the charity.”
One can assume head injury is a cause close to Harry’s heart, and not just because his mother was a patron. Harry has been an active part of the British Army since 2005, and likely has relationships with many comrades who came home with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, or another type of brain injury.
It is unclear what the actual result of Harry’s patronage to the charity is, but one can hope it means an emphasis on brain health from the royal family, as well as much needed funding for many scientific studies on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
