In December of last year, Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher was rushed to a hospital in Grenoble, France after experiencing severe head injuries in a skiing accident. We shared what little public information has been available during his long recovery, which included months in a medically induced coma.

Many believed the head injuries could be the end of Schumacher’s life, and media has been consistently negative about Schumacher’s potential to recover. However, he appears to be making steady progress as this week Michael Schumacher was allowed to leave the University Hospital in Lausanne to return to his home in Switzerland.

Schumacher certainly still has a long and difficult path to recovery ahead of him, and it is hard to make predictions for his future with the limited information available to the public. But, any progress is good news and should provide hope to others who have suffered severe brain injuries.
