NJ Lawmakers Push For Youth Screening Program As Link Between Brain Injury and Crime Strengthens

The collection of data showing a strong link between criminal activity and high rates of brain injury is growing quickly, and lawmakers are starting to take note. Legislators in New Jersey have drafted one of the first bills in the country aimed at increasing screening and rehabilitation for at-risk youth.

The proposed bill would establish a program to work with children who show signs of brain injury or have committed crimes using a yet to be developed screening tool to identify brain injuries among those ages 5 to 21.

The proposal also outlines education and basic training programs for professionals and advocates. You can find out more here.
