Army Hospital Tries Treating Brain Injury With Music
Can music help people with brain injury or disease regain cognitive function or motor coordination? Music therapy advocates believe it might, and now Patricia Kime reports they have the opportunity to test it at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesday, Md.
The therapy will be offered as part of Operation Homecoming, which is co-sponsered by the National Endowment for the Arts, to explore the healing power of arts. If the test period goes well, it is possible this type of treatment will become part of other medical centers’ treatment plans for patients with TBI or brain disorders.
