America Tonight Maps All College Football Concussions This Season

The college and professional football seasons are now underway, and with them the debate about concussion safety and treatment in sports returns to the forefront of many peoples’ minds. President Obama has even issued statements on the issue, such as opining that the NCAA needed to do more to protect college football players from concussion. The huge NFL settlement and upcoming NCAA litigation also highlight the issue.

The NCAA is in an especially precarious position in terms of brain injury in football, as the lawsuit filed by former players accuses the league of not doing enough to protect student-athletes. Even now, the NCAA had yet to give any sign they will be implementing any sort of extensive standardized policy for managing concussions within the league.

To help bring focus to the high rate of brain injuries within upper-level football, America Tonight put together The AT Concussion Map recording all reported concussions in college football this season. Each marker on the map represents a player reported with a concussion, and the location of the markers represents the location of their university. The markers will be updated with more current information for players as the season progresses.
